There are two beliefs of Christianity that stabilize civilization. One is the Imago dei meaning the image of God. The concept starts in Genesis at the creation and shoots through the eschatology of Judaism and then Christianity.
The second is that "to whom much is given, much will be required". It basically gives a person two things. People with "much" will have to account in the afterlife for what they did with it, and to gain more and more means to have more responsibility with what you did with "much". This allows for a warning for material gain, and if taken to heart puts an easy on social classes. This does not mean social advancement in wrong. It means social advancement comes with an equally greater responsibility.
